Camping Trip: Select photos
Last weekend was the Jacob family campout. It was awesome, except for the mosquitos... I've never seen mosquitos so thick! I didn't get a single bug bite the whole time we were there, luckily, because we were all being very meticulous with bug spray. These are just a few pictures that I took during said campout that I'm pretty proud of. I really need my own camera... I'm crossing my fingers for my birthday! It's only a month and a half away, right? Haha. Enjoy the pretty pictures.
Emma and a waterbottle.
A spray bottle. It was full of Listerine to keep the mosquitos away. It actually works very well, and smells tons better than bug spray.
Pretty lichen on a rock. The big splotch in front looks like Africa...
Some pretty purple flowers. They're about an inch across.
Some plants growing on the side of a stream. If you were a few inches tall and were standing in the stream, this is what you would see.
A dandelion. It's odd, when they're in your yard, they're weeds. When they're in the wilderness, they're just another wildflower.

30 day makeover, day 2
I found out that it's not a 4 day countdown as much as a warm up, so Thursday was day 1, Friday was day 2, &c.
Day 2, - May 15
Breakfast: 1/3 yucky Clementine.
Began 200 sit ups. Max: 18
Lunch: Mayo, avocado, cucumber, tomato, & pickle sandwich on whole wheat. Surprisingly very yummy. I may have to eat those often.
Snack: 5 Doritos?
Dinner: ??? Did I have dinner?? For some reason, I don't think so.
Beauty tips to try:
Egg white facial
quarter of Shampoo, dime of conditioner. (we'll see).

30 Total Health Makeover
My mom's had this book for ages, so I decided to give it a try. It's a 30 day total health makeover, obviously, and... yeah. It starts with a 4 day countdown, which I started yesterday, so that the real thing starts on Monday. I'm keeping a log of.. stuff. And I'm going to blog about it. The rule for the 4 day countdown is simple: No dairy, no sugar, no red meat, no alcohol. Man, that last one is a toughie.
Day -4, May 14:
Breakfast: OJ, Strawberry, & banana smoothie. Yummy. Feel full and satisfied.
Lunch: Tuna, mayo, pickle, lettuce sandwich on wheat bread.
Dinner: Spaghetti (wow, that is the weirdest word ever...) with no meatballs, salad with italian dressing, lemonade.
Went to movies for midnight showing of Angels and Demons. Ate: Ritz Bitz cheese sandwiches, Vanilla Coke. BAD.
I also started the 200 sit ups thing yesterday. I did 30 for my initial test. I probably could have done more, but oh well. At least I'm doing some, right?

Just kidding.
So, I had two thoughts yesterday during psychology:
I figured out why I write: Because I would die if I did anything else. I have so many ideas going around in my head that they NEED to be written.
Also, I know when Spring begins, because my inner hippy comes out. Like yesterday. I suddenly had every desire to be healthy and go green and be a vegetarian again. Probably because we're going to Zion, and that's where it all began.

Sixes
Got this from Annzy's blog. Thought it was cool.
This is how it works: go to the pictures folder on your computer, go to the sixth file, go to the sixth picture, post it, then tag 6 people.
(except I'm doing it this way: going into iPhoto, going to the sixth file/event, getting the sixth picture.)

Operation Booty Update
So... me and my roommate Katelin decided to name my getting in shape-ness "operation booty." So there you go. It's booty as in butt, not booty as in pirate booty. But the spelling "bootie" makes me think of a little shoe. And that just doesn't work for me.
Last week I did my workout twice. This week is a bit more troublesome. Here's why:
I like to do my workout after dinner, so it's not just SURPRISE in the middle of the day. The problem is, I have stuff going on every single night this week: Monday - filming my English final project. Tuesday - Garden dress rehearsal. Wednesday - The Garden. Thursday - The Garden. Then it's Easter break.
I could run on Easter break. That'd probably be easy actually. I'd just have to figure out the milage that I'm running around campus (probably not much), then run that at home. I sometimes feel like such a pansy only running 15 minutes. But there is that scripture about not running faster than you have strength, and I do feel, after running for the majority of a 15 minute time span, that I'm about to fall on my face. But it won't always be that way. Oh no.
Maybe I'll run before dinner this week, so that --- no, that won't work either. Maybe I'll run right after class, so then I have time to take a shower before all of my evening stuff begins. Yes. That will be the plan.
Tally ho!

Getting in shape
Well, I want to start getting in shape. So I'm going to blog about it. The eating healthy is... meh, but it's cafeteria food, so what can you do?
Today, I went for a 15 minute run/walk around campus. Then I came back, stretched, and did that 8 Minute Abs work out video that mom used to have (found it on YouTube). Then I did some yoga strength/breathing and ended with relaxation. I figure if I do this every night, I'll be in good shape. (No pun intended).
I also figure that if I tell you about it, I'll feel guilty when I don't do it. So. Here it goes. Wish me luck.
And here's a goofy picture of me to get it started. (sorry mom, but that's what I was wearing! Not for the run, just doing the workouts in my room. It felt more legit.)

Mirielle was right...
Semester-itis is worse than Senior-itis. ESPECIALLY living in Juniper. They're locking the doors to the halls now, and they took away all the garbage cans. There's one on our whole floor that isn't in a room. The other BATHROOM doesn't even have one!!! And our bathroom just has a little one. Neither of the living rooms have one. Gah.

Quote for Today
I finally got around to reading A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. I LOVE this book. The writing is just so amazing. Betty Smith, the author, is so talented with words, the way I hope to be someday. She paints such perfect pictures, and conveys all the best (and worst) emotions, and they are so REAL. I was flipping through my copy today when I came across an underlined passage:
I don't like this so much because of the Jews thinking they are making the baby Jesus, but I like it because they are proud that they are pregnant. And when I grow up and know that I am going to have a baby, I will walk proud and slow even though I am not a Jew.
"I guess that's why the Jews have so many babies," Francie thought. "And why they sit so quiet...waiting. And why they aren't ashamed the way they are fat. Each one thinks that she might be making the real little Jesus. That's why they walk so proud when they're that way. Now the Irish women always look so ashamed. They know that they can never make a Jesus. It will just be another Mick. When I grow up and know that I am going to have a baby, I will remember to walk proud and slow even though I am not a Jew."

I found this on YouTube. It is so funny! But kind of sad at the same time. Poor little drugged up kid. Mom, was I like that when I had to go through that whole process of getting a cap on my tooth?

First Five
First Five!!!
Share
The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! (do I even have that many people reading this?)
my choice. for you. this offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2. what I create will be just for you.
3. it’ll be done this year. {translation: you may be waiting a little while}
4. you have no clue what it’s going to be … it may be cards, a poem, a bookmark, something yummy or a complete surprise to you (and me!) … who knows? not you, that’s for sure!
5. i reserve the right to do something extremely strange.
6. most importantly, you must offer the same deal on your blog - the first 5 people to comment on your blog (or if you do not have a blog, facebook) get something made by YOU! the first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me …
Those were the rules as copied exactly from Compulsive Writer's blog. She added an idea. If you’re not the kind of person that wants to make something tangible for others, how about some kind of service for them, any type, any size?

The Prestige
I realized today why I like this movie so much. Well, one, because Christopher Nolan is probably the most amazing screenwriter and director to ever walk the fact of this earth. But today I remembered a quote from the film that I used in an English paper once. Robert Angier, one of the magicians, says it. And it's how I feel about acting. It's why I act. I'm not particularly good at it, and it terrifies me to no end. But this is why I do it. And this is why I write.
The audience knows the truth: the world is simple. It's miserable, solid all the way through. But if you could fool them, even for a second, then you can make them wonder, and then you... then you got to see something really special... you really don't know?... it was... it was the look on their faces...

Life as it is...
I've lived for over forty years and I've seen life as it is. Pain, misery, cruelty beyond all belief. I've heard all the voices of God's noblest creature. Moans from bundles of filth in the street. I've been a soldier and a slave. I've seen my comrades fall in battle or die more slowly under the lash in Africa. I've held them at the last moment. These were men who saw life as it is, yet they died despairing. No glory, no brave last words, only their eyes, filled with confusion, questioning "Why?" I don't think they were wondering why they were dying, but why they had ever lived. When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams, this may be madness; to seek treasure where there is only trash. Too much sanity may be madness! But maddest of all - -to see life as it is and not as it should be.
This is my favorite part of the Man of la Mancha.

The Adventures of Humpty Dumpty
This came out of my head during Psychology:
And that is what my mind spewed all over a piece of notebook paper during Psychology.
"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses
And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again."
Poor, poor Humpty Dumpty...
...but maybe he could put himself back together, if he tried hard enough. If he wanted to be put back together.
"All the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Humpty together again."
Today I had a revalation. What if Humpty Dumpty WANTED to heal himself? I think he could do it. Maybe he didn't want to be put back together by the King's horses and the King's men.
And that is what my mind spewed all over a piece of notebook paper during Psychology.

SNOW!!!
So... yesterday, when we went to dinner, we all remarked on how the snow was finally all melted. I guess we spoke too soon, because later that night, as we were having our reading party, I looked out the window and there was about 2 inches of snow on the ground. Later that night, Katelin and I were looking at old family photos, and we each got a text message from Geneil: "Snow!" We looked out the window and, sure enough, there was snow. About 6 inches. Then we heard a THUD and there was a snowball on the window! We looked out and Geneil was down below on the lawn, scooping up another snowball to throw at us. Then Katelin ran down and let her in to the building. She managed to convince us all to go out into the snow, so we all put on our boots and our coats and ran out. It was awesome! So quiet and the sky was all orangey and cool. We played until about 11:30, and then came back to my room and made hot chocolate and steamed milk, with Gwen's "areolatte" frother thing. It's sweet, but messy if you don't know what you're doing!! After talking for another half an hour with Geneil, I went to bed.
This morning when I woke up, Katelin pulled back the curtain and blinded me with the white clouds. It's STILL snowing. I reckon we've got about a foot, maybe a little less. I wish I didn't have to go anywhere today. I like to look at it, but it gets all in my eyes and the wind blows it into the hood of my coat when I go out. Oh well, haha.

I like.
Aunt Jess posted this on facebook.
"Our children learn from us; our example sets the pattern for them. If we talk over them when we speak, or interrupt them, they will do the same. If we shout when we are angry, so will they. If we tell them what to do instead of asking them politely, they will copy us. If our children have qualities we dislike, we should question ourselves as to where they learned them from."

Huh.
I'm not sure when it switched from "Where are you staying?" to "Where are you living?" But it did. Probably around the same time that it switched from "Let's go back to the room," to "Let's go home." I didn't even notice. Figures, though.
Wedding Bells?
Granted, these rumours circulate almost every spring like clockwork, but I get a hunch these are different.
The couple, who have been together for 10 years and have two children, Lily-Rose, nine, and six-year-old Jack, together, are planning to tie the knot in a chapel on the grounds of their $1.25 million French estate.
A source revealed: “They’re a very private couple. It’s no surprise they’d want to celebrate at their home.”
Johnny, 45, sparked rumors he was set to propose to Vanessa last month when he was seen shopping for an engagement ring in California.
The pair are keen to keep the ceremony as intimate as possible, and will only invite 50 of their closest friends and family.
Director Tim Burton is expected to act as best man, while Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards is also due to attend.
An insider added: “Keith and Johnny are good pals. Johnny’s portrayal of Jack Sparrow in ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ was partly inspired by the old rocker, and Keith had a cameo in the second sequel.”

Johnny Depp Monday
This picture comes to you, courtesy of Johnny-Depp.org. This is the best screencap from last night's Golden Globe awards. Johnny presented the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture. The Golden Globe went to Sally Hawkins, Happy Go Lucky. (which sounded beautiful when Johnny said it... I burn, I pine, I perish...)
